Re: Good old forests

Hey all,

I have just finished making some updates!

I made the wood placement better ( I hope so :P), I did add some coal for loc 3, so it's more balanced and just some small other changes.

Please give me some new feedback for more improvements :D

(Is the map ready for a test game?)

New version, see latest post for the download!

There was a little problem with a goldmine in the top right location :)

Re: Good old forests

Hey Killer, I didn't download the map but judging from the screenshot it looks pretty good. Only thing I don't like are the forests. I think your trees are too far away from each other. :)

Re: Good old forests

Hey TDL, I was thinking about changing the forests so they will be closer to each other, but my question is if that´s only your opinion or if it´s really better for the map if I will change the forests? :)

If you disagree with the doctor you can always ask for a second opinion. ;)
But it would be useless to ask me, since I gave the first opinion. :P

Re: Good old forests

I agree with TDL ;)
Most important thing is that your forests are not completely the same. Make sure your individual forests have spots where there are small clearings and some tight spots.

Re: Good old forests

Is this better? with the trees? ( closer to each other and added some) :)

And I don't know if anyone saw it already but loc5 is changed a bit, is this better?

Re: Good old forests

I'm playing more single player, so I can't really tell you anything about MP balance, so I'll just tell you what I think about looks of your map.

From what I see you've made quite a step forward from 1st version of this map. Forests are now very nicely done, terrain variety is really good, object placement is good, too. Only thing I don't like on style of your map is mountain elevation. It's not only you, there are more mapmakers who are doing it like this. For example of elevation I personally like more look on TDL's or Ben's mountains, they're just more natural and that's what makes maps look even better.

This is my opinion, you can hear it or not. Please don't take it like I don't like your work ;).

Good luck,
Vatrix

Re: Good old forests

Thanks for the feedback Vatrix :)

The thing is you said it already, that more people makes their mountains like I do so i don't know if it's something i really need to change?
But if you really say it's bad looking or that's not a good way of making the mountains I will change it for sure!

Create an empty .txt file, and give it the same name as the map (i.e. "good old forests.txt", without the quotes). Skip this step if the file already exists.
Open it, and if there's no line with "BigDesc" then add it, without the quotes.
Now you can add the map's description just below "BigDesc".

See "Across the Desert.txt" in Across the Desert's folder for an example.

Yes, I think this should be changed, it's just not looking natural imo. If you make the mountains like I said (for example look at my beloved TSK, or any of TDL or Bens maps), I'll really appreciate it :).

At first i want to say THANK YOU at everyone who has given me feedback at my map :D

I have made some changes on my map :)

So here is a screenshot and give me some feedback please if the map is better now and if i need to change some more things :)

Killer!!
