Shadaoe's maps

Hi ! I'll use this post to post news about the maps I'm doing
I'll edit it each time I have something new
Tell me what you think about it, your feedbacks, and enjoy !

Multiplayer maps from newest to oldest :

---- The Raven's Field
Listed under "Special Maps", it uses a dynamic script and shows the killls of each player.
It is a 4v4 fighting map where you start with recruits and barracks, you can do the army you like (max 20 iron units) and fight in the central area.

---- The valley of dangers (2)
State : finished, included in the remake
An 8 players map, all the players have the exact same area.

---- The valley of dangers
State : removed from the remake, the new version replaced it
An 8 players map, all the players have the exact same area. Ugly.

I'm not much of a map maker myself, but still, here's what I think:

About your first map:

- A lot of open spaces.. It's almost impossible to protect your village.
- The 'mountains' look to smooth. Try making them look more 'rough'.
- The square patches of dirt look kind of weird, compared to the rest of the map :P

About your second map:

- This is so 'not' KaM style (I know it's intended) that I'll never play it :p Thus, I wont criticise it :)

Thanks for your suggestions :
-for the open space, it's done on purpose, I'm planning something interesting between the two teams with some AI towers :p (still thinking about how to do that actually, maybe I'll wait until AI works)
-for the moutains : I'll try to make them more rough !
-the square patches of dirt ? I think it's the poor quality of the screenshots because this is the stone from bridges that is in squares (on the right), it's done on purpose because it's the center of the city of each member of the team of 3

Second map : too bad a lot of people don't even want to test it ... maybe you would love it :p

I really like the little island on the first one, and the desert bit - good job!

But I'm afraid I don't like the second one at all, it doesn't look like a realistic landscape...

I spent quite some time doing this part of the map with the desert, I'm glad you like it !

For the second, yes it's not a realistic landscape, it's mainly a map to have fair matches and some fun, but well I understand that it isn't KaM-style.
I'm quite happy with this one :p Even if nobody likes it :p

Aha yes I know it might look strange, but it was to make every area different :p (I'm inspired by custom maps from other games :p )

It's like Anti Virus said, the mountains aren't rough enough.
But I disagree about it being too open. If it is open to everybody it is still balanced.

About the second map: Elevation, thats all. Looks like a playable map, but I think that if you'd round all corners it'll be a bit nicer.

Like, english isn't my first language. It's not always that obvious for me ! :p

If it's what GWB meant : well, I think it's part of the feeling of the map if they are squary, I did it on purpose, I know only a few people like it, but I did this map with an idea, I think the terrain is perfect for that idea for now :p

Making all the corners a bit rounder, you have them like this:
What is you first language? French?
Now, my French sucks but I think this looks something like it:
Les coins arrondies.

O, and if you want everything to be fair then I'd suggest stop using auto decorate.

I think it's good to have some maps like this. Sure it isn't the traditional KaM style but it's interesting to try new things! I don't think I'd end up playing this map often but last time I played it worked quite well, except it should have been top vs bottom not left vs right :P The gameplay was certainly different to other missions I've played.
O, and if you want everything to be fair then I'd suggest stop using auto decorate.
Auto decorate does not effect the gameplay in any way... The resources are cloned between starting positions so they are the same.

I never copy resources so I didn't assume everything would be so perfectly balanced

Yes I used the copy past function for the ressources :p Every player has exactly the same area with the same ressources.

Yes I'm french, and now I understand :p Your french sentence was almost perfect by the way :p
So about the corners, I won't round them, I think it's par of the map, I can try to improve it so it looks nicer though !
