Circular Map 256x256

I prepared an empty "basic map" with a ring of mountains (and void around it).
The main idea is letting other mapmakers create any building/fighting map, having already prepared the circular scenario to work.

As if it were a "New Mission" (nameless map), I titled mine "+New Planet" so it appears at Top list when you want to make a new circular map.
You can change the main ground tile as you like (I prepared it with light green grass).
Just be creative, and think in a nice name for it.

Description
Circular map template divided in several sections for better overview/planning.
Default CENTER_SCREEN is marked by one labourer standing in center of "portion".
Made for Mapmakers

Note: I placed Rocks objects all around the void... If you zoom out, they will resemble to distant stars/asteroids -> planet idea.
You can obviously remove them and replace void with another terrain (so background doesn't look "universal").

A very interesting idea...I like it!
I believe that a circular map would make an exceptionally good free-for-all.

This is a really interesting resource !
It'll save time for mapmakers so they don't have to do it and I'm sure some pretty good map ideas can come up from that pattern !

Thanks guys for your comments.
I'm actually making a super battle map with that pattern.

I was making a building scenario for 8 players, but I decided that battle map is more needed nowadays because there are really few options and for 8 players only "Enter the Heat", "Spring of Events" or "Pirate Bond", but space to maneuver in those is quite limited.

I think KaMR needs a XXL map for 8 ffa with big armies and interesting tactical terrains... and that's what I'm working on now.

Of course I thought this design could be useful for another mapmaker (thus starting with 15% already done).
I'm thinking if there could be in the List of Maps something new like this... Not building/fighting/cooperative, but a new Genre.

It's nice preparing patterns in blank, so others can work on them. It adds something new to map categories -> Only for Mapmakers.

Excited to hear that, but I already know this huge battle map, with huge armies, will lag like shit :P

We are looking forward to see how this map works out and if needed - to optimize Remakes code bottlenecks )
I already did some improvements in pathfinding code for Vortamic (however we have new Group handling which may need some polishing too)

What makes you say that? The Remake is able to handle 256x256 maps well (we did a lot of optimization before increasing the limit to 256), and battle missions are MUCH less CPU intensive than building games (since there are no houses/serfs/deliveries/laborers/etc. to update). The only time you might get a problem is if one person has a very old/slow computer or a bad GPU (because currently low framerate causes the game itself to run slowly). If one player can't run the game at full speed it will lag for everyone so it stays in sync (the next release will show the FPS for each player so you can tell when somebody is causing lag).

And as Krom says, if there are issues with lag in such a map we'll try to fix them :)

If we end up having a lot of "template" maps like this, then it'd be useful to have a separate section for them i.e. they are classified as "templates" and they don't get listed with the other playable maps.
Of course, this would only be needed if they are stored within the Remake. The easiest thing to do would be to not list them at all, I suppose.

I split the off topic discussion on lag to a new topic: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1320
