Cheating

Look what I just found:
http://forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=552836

Some people tried unsuccessfully to hack the KaM Remake in order to cheat in multiplayer. On one hand it's sad that people enjoy winning multiplayer games through cheating (which seems unsatisfactory and pointless to me), but on the other hand it's a tribute to the success of the project, especially the multiplayer aspect. I wonder if anyone will respond to my reply on their thread? ;)

My opinion is, looking at that picture, that it is pretty complicated to do a single step towards "cheating" (and if its not even possible then let them do :p), I can build a whole city and army before that guy will ever build an iron mine ;) Tho it was nearly a year ago, maybe they wont even look at it.

(P.S.: Matthew and a guy with My little pony avatar... coincidence? XD)

Did you mean Bo_? Maybe it's he, but many people like this show...

I think this guy is really naive. If I know well, Cheat Engine doesn't work in multiplayer games.

haha nice one, but you should have justsaid nothing and let them figure out the impossible :D it is much more fun to see them raging because the cheats fail then explain it will not work ^^

LOL You didn´t knew that topic up to here Lewin? I found that topic some months ago and showed it also on TS. Matthew is our Matt but the pony guy is a professional "cheater" and doesn´t know the game even.
I tried it also to cheat offline and online with Cheat Engine, just to find out if it is possible and report it then (ofcourse :-) ).

I managed it to get the recources i wanted to for barracks and storehouse. I tried also to get like "full inn" but that was too hard and propably not doable. When you get the lines one time you can save them up and you can cheat easily.(Offline)
In some early version of the KaM Remake I also managed it to cheat in a mpgame(don´t worry, the enemy knew that i wanna try it), but after r3xxx or sth like that it stopped working because the way how the game changes the information (Computer-Server-other Computer) was changed propably from the Remake Team. However I have holidays now so I could invest some time to try it and send you a report, when it would work :P

BTW: Yeah when I tried to cheat in SP games first time, i had also some crashes. I don´t remember but I think i changed jut the type to Bytes or sth like that, so i found "both" entries and can edit both then succesully.

Haha, nice! :)

Enjoyed reading whole of that topic :)
Good find.

@Pawel: KaM Remake multiplayer was always like that Lewin describes. Probably the "out of sync" did not had enough time to kick in. (E.g. if you cheat from 40 to 400 stone you get the error only on 41th stone being taken from Store)

singleplayer cheating is mostly redundant given that we have singleplayer cheats implemented into the game (as most games do). I guess he might have wanted something a bit specific. We'd be happy to implement more singleplayer cheats to save you the trouble
-Quite the contrary. For most games, the single player cheats that we seek are not provided by default. When they are, they are often provided as a DLC pack that must be purchased, or, they can adversely effect game statistics when used or prohibit further progress when activated etc.. Additionally, for some of us, a large part of what we do is driven by the challenge of solving the puzzle, expanding our creativity and knowledge and reinventing the game. Some of us, like myself, don't even play the games that we mod except for training purposes or on rare occasions. In fact, I am not a gamer at all.
I agree with METHOS reply, cheating is not only about the result, but also about the process.

I for myself would be much less happy if TopWare published the KaM source codes and file formats and everything. Deciphering everything by ourselves is much more rewarding process :)

Well that's not entirely true. It depends how server sided the game is. A little while back, you could add/change/duplicate any item in your Minecraft inventory, while in an online server through cheat engine.
