Look into mapname.txt file located in the maps folder, it contains a few sections (SetCoop, BigDesc, etc) which you can change.

well this might be offtopic, but an idea sprang up since many new mapmakers struggle with this. how about being able to save the text somewhere in the editor? would it be too much work?

Notepad is much simpler and faster. It allows proper copy/paste, word selection and etc.

I agree, but that's correct only for us, computer-literate people. Therefore I must agree with dicso as well
For someone that simply wants to change those options quickly, that'd be sweet.
Or what about including all possible .txt "commands" (for lack of a better word: BigDesc, SetCoop, SetSpecial etc.) by default? The way I see it:
Default file after changes:
SetSpecial OFF
SetCoop OFF
BigDesc Description.
I'm guessing it'd be possible to convert the old .txt files, either by supporting the old syntax for compability reasons, or converting it on the fly (not sure if that's a good idea).
However, I do realize that's lots of work for little gain, so maybe we should stick to dicso's idea or simply not do anything.

"SetSpecial OFF" syntax is not required, since the OFF is the default state. Mere presence of SetSpecial is enough to mark the map ON.
Here's a new wiki article just for you:

Actually, I feel like Set Special isn't needed. Instead, any map that uses a script should automatically be placed into special maps. I've been fooled before playing a fighting map that I thought had no script. The map should have been in the special maps but, alas, it wasn't, and I lost and was fooled because of it.

I'm afraid we can not apply this as a rule. Even TSK/TPR maps are now scripted. There is no other way to show an in-game message without a script.

Alright, then I withhold my argument. Best method now is to just check the content of a suspect map's folder.

If you are still having trouble, or would like a more in-depth explanation, I made a video tutorial on this matter.
