I agree, I'd say even more: let's have all the maps generated before every game! Why do we need mapmakers, there's always someone saying that the map sucks, if the maps are generated, there will be no complaints.

On a serious note though. Making random map generator is a very, very difficult task, I guess it would be even harder than making good AI. And while good AI is almost a must-have feature, random map generator is not...

Yes, it's already implemented.
1. when in lobby overview, you are able to select games wich currently take place. it shows information about the map, playing time and participating people. is it also possible to display the set peace time value? this way it's easier to estimate when a certain game will finish. most of the times this is less then 30 mins. after peace time. so if a friend is playing in a certain game, you can more easily decide to wait or just start another game..
I'm not sure that's necessary, since I've never seen peacetime outside of the 50-70 minute range, you can usually guess how much is left. Also some games still go for 3 hours even with 60 minutes peacetime.
2. when in the lobby, a minimap is displayed. chosing your location is possible via the dropdown selection menu. but would it be nice too, to select it by clicking one of the black locations markers on the minimap?
Yeah that was always planned, but somehow got forgotten about. I'll add a todo item for it.
3. when in a game, with chat window open. if you want to place a beacon with shortkey B, you'll type b in the chatbox. would it be a better suggestion to change shortkey B to CTRL + B? this way you can also use beacons when you're in the middle of typing a message to an ally instead of closing the chat window and then placing the beacon. (or perhaps i have missed something?)
I noticed this too while playing, I often leave the chat window open and it's annoying to have to close it to place beacons.
By the way, what do you think about adding a "description" textfield to lobby options, so you would see a description of the lobby when browsing servers? For example, the host could write here "beginners/pros only", "fight map only", "we love flowers" etc.
I think that would be very useful. There's not much space to show it in the server list but we could make the server name shorter because it's not that useful and most of them could be shortened by removing the words "KaM Remake" and "server" and just containing the important part.

To make a random map generator that does anything sensible would probably take us years of work. Even then they probably wouldn't look any good, and wouldn't be well balanced. We already have 100+ multiplayer maps, I think that's more than enough. Why waste our time on something the community does for us already? :P

about default height:
Will it be possible to change the height? or just be 30%?
As the editor, I would like to help me. Some of the maps I want to start at the height of eg 80%


Maybe to give these options:
height 30% (default)
height 50%
height 70%
height 90%

When a game is in progress you still have the option: Join game, but then there is the error game in progress.
Could it be possible for a player to re-join a game?
Example:
Lobby with 4 players, Piet, Pierre, Peter and Pieter.
After 13 minutes Pieter's game crashes, he leaves.
When he leaves the AI player takes over his town, after 5 minutes Pieter can restart Kam, he selects the game in progress, Join game and he takes over his town again.

I know, great example but I think that could work.

Nice idea Bo... I want to suggest additional ideas for Replays.
I wonder if it's possible to show beacons thrown in the minimap and the chat historial in-game.
Many conversations have been always funny...
Aclaration: These beacons signals and All/Team conversations are from the Player's point of view (whose replay came from).

Allowing people to rejoin a game in progress is planned but it's quite a lot of work. Here's how it would work:
1. Player leaves/is disconnected
2. Host clicks a button "return to lobby" which saves the game and switches back to the lobby with that save selected for everyone
3. A new player joins (even if it's someone different to the one who left), the save is transferred to them and the host can click Start Game.

That seems like the best solution because you might want to replace someone if they leave (people are always complaining about leavers). This requires file transfer which is quite a lot of work.
Joining while the game is running is far more complicated, since it has to transfer the entire game state over in a "save", then it would have to catch up on the time it missed while the save was transferring.

Would it be possible to add a "public chat" to the multiplayer? Including a chat and a list of online players, and maybe a plus button "invite to lobby". It could make communication among players and games' organisation easier.
