I haven't been following this topic in great detail, so forgive me if my idea seems different than those currently being discussed.
Okay, so I understand that we are worried about too many things appearing on the left sidebar (The exact name escapes me right now). We don't want any of Krom's buses, but I still think that an easy solution would be to have a button that toggles on and off towers attack citizens. That way the player can still kill enemy citizens if he wants to, but can avoid being builder rushed.

Hahaha. Is a "bus" a different word for "STD"?

Just kidding though, I've read the thread you're referring to.

Hm... I think that sounds interesting, I personally hadn't thought about it yet. I think that's a pretty good idea.

It's not a bad idea, but it seems like another annoying thing the player has to worry about. That means for every tower I build I have to remember to turn off attacking citizens in case the enemy uses a builder rush, I can imagine checking all of my towers in case I missed one.
I like that it would make "tower wars" possible again since otherwise The Valley of Dangers will need to have towers disallowed, because someone could build a tower near your entrance which would stop you from building out into the valley completely.

I hadn't thought of that. Since the primary purpose of this is to avoid builder-rushes, perhaps this could be a global command. I.e., enabling it for one tower enables it for all.

You could also have it turned off at default, and make an option to turn it
off.

Aren't there mutators for that?

Hmmm, I think that this is an excellent proposal! Why had I not thought of this before?

It's nice proposal tough I think something similar was proposed in the past.
Don't remember who (Lewin or Krom) said that if possible... no "ideas with checkboxes".

I guess Lewin has now pretty much agreed, hadn't he?

I think that this is a rather hasty guess. I don't think that he has confirmed that, yet.

That's true, but his only objection got cleared out.

Not necessarily. There will always be the issue of Krom's Bus; however, Lewin didn't seem to against adding to the UI in this instance. The best way to find out will be to wait for his response.

I'm impatient.

I thought about that in combination with #2
You could re-enable tower wars by making your own towers supportive.
That means, your civilians still don't enter enemy tower range - unless they are within the range of your own towers. It does not make sense, of course, to enable the support only by full-build towers (because the first tower would block a not-finished enemy one), nor does it make sense by a simply planned towers (as you can plant them anywhere). But if you take a compromise, let's say the tower has been visited by a laborer and is connected to the road network, then it's supportive to your civilians.

I saw this 'Workers cancel the plans if they cant reach them due to towers' change on the google code page; do 'workers' include serfs or labourers only?

Only labourers. In the code we usually call labourers "workers" because that's what Krom translated it as back in 2008. It's also a bit shorter and easier to write/harder to misspell
But thanks for reminding me, I forgot to announce it here. Every time a labourer takes a step somewhere he checks if he is walking into a tower's range. If he is, he stops walking and cancels the task he was going to do (road/field/house plan gets removed). So this means the labourers stop just out of range of the enemy's towers. If you try to push the labourers into the towers range with your troops it won't work because they will always choose a different direction to walk. We'll see how this goes in the RC, so please try to find a way to exploit it and let us know the results
