I always wondered... why does the Remake need to have TPR installed? Can't it just read the files from my original TPR CD instead? (not sure if same would be possible with an GOG downloaded version, which I assume is just a single .exe file) I don't want to play TPR at all, I am 100% interested in the Remake only.
As far as I know it doesn't need to read any file from TPR, it checks wether you installed it or not because of legal reasons (again, that's "as far as I know")

What sado means is that it would be nice if the Remake install could read the files from the disc so you don't need to actually install TPR on your PC.

Yes I actually understood what sado meant,
but since it checks for registry entry (if I remember correctly), it's less abusable than having an .iso file or a burnt CD of a version that would be downloaded illegaly. Most cracked version don't install those registry entries and thus it makes the security better (and copyright owners less likely to be nasty), as less people will be able to install it without a legal TPR.
It does a selection between most cracked versions / most legal versions to have the step "install TPR".
Well that's how I understood it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe it was my PC back then, but there were computers that had trouble reading the KaM CD-ROM, so that may not be a great solution. Especially since most of the CD-ROMs will be scratched by now. And the fact that the GOG version isn't a CD-ROM..

hello

well thanks skypper well i didnt download it.
And i have tried lewins idea and it works :D
That's not a great solution because he won't be able to install any future KaM Remake versions or updates without TPR installed properly. Did you try using compatibility mode? Right click on the installer exe, properties, compatibility, try Windows XP (that's how it is in Windows 7, I'm not sure about 8)

if you open the CD in a new window then setup properties then compatibility and then windows 7.

thanks for all the responds :D

Chris hasnt Windows 8 like the Windows 7 PRO Verion a windows xp mode avaible? I often use it under win7 to play the reamek for example 2 times online at the same time. Often you can install a game there in a "non-physical" extra Harddrive sector and copy just older games back to the windows 7(8) "drive" and play it under your new os then. Isnt that possible to try that? (I often do that for old 16 bit games, were the installer don´t run under 64 bit os. I install the games under the windows xp mode, copy the files and it works(when the game itselves is compatible with 64 bit os´)

NVM just realised that someone wrote here a good solution....

There is no windows xp mode available in windows 8.

I you have the "pro" version of windows 8 you have Hyper-V, an hypervisor that lets you have virtual machines but that's another story.
