I wonder if it's GOG or if you're just lucky with your setup.

It might also just be the video-drivers like one of the topic's on the dutch boards is suggesting.

Hello,

could anybody describe the file list in this gog-package?

It's very strange: I've received an answer from Polish Topware Int. that this game isn't stable for XP and Vista, so they couldn't sell it on their site. "It is closed chapter in our history", they said.

Apparently, there is some kind of loader in place which supposedly fixes the lagging problems that occur under Windows Vista. No idea if it would be feasible and/or legal to rip that loader and offer it separately.

So... anyone want to buy that version in order to test it? (and possibly rip the loader?)

I bought it..

It works on Vista and Windows 7 (I tested it on x64, so I can't imagine it won't work on x86)

Conclusion: install works great :D

Have you managed to find any loader kind of application that starts before you run the game?

You mean when I double-click KaM?

No..
It just.. starts :P

Is there anything you need?
(screenshot of file-list or so?)

Furthermore, I've installed SR3 beta 7, although I do disagree with some of the 'improvements' made..

I don't really have a clue about how it works so unless you find something suspicious, I don't know what I'm looking for. :P

A file list with possible file sizes and last modified dates on it might be usefull. would have to be the version directly after download though.

Perhaps they've simply modified something to make it work, and if so, it would be interesting to have as well.

I think it would be awesome if we could find what ever it is that makes this work on Vista and put it in SR3. Then everyone can can have KaM work on Vista.

It might be a change to the EXE, because remember that ZuXXeZ probably does have the source code. Making it compatible with Vista might have been the simple act of recompiling it with a more recent compiler and a couple of minor changes to the code. Although, that would mean it wouldn't work after installing the SR3 patch. Maybe it's a registry change like the screenshot fix, or a compatibility property of the shortcut to KaM? Or another EXE that the shortcut runs which emulates compatibility and then runs the normal KaM EXE.
It's also interesting that SR3 found the game even though it wasn't installed off a CD. As far as I've heard most of the download version don't set the correct registry values to make the patch installers find it.

This is a great discovery, and would be really nice to incorporate it into SR3. (I get lots of emails from people saying they can't play KaM anymore because of Vista)

That was pretty much my plan.

From what I've heard, the people at GOG.com don't have access to any game source codes and the likelihood of ZuXXeZ having made a patch is slim. I'd still take a bet at it being some kind of loader altering memory or something.

I think they all set the registry values. People that don't have them have a pirated version of the game.

I'd take a guess that the main game folder is the one we want.
