I'm also a Settlers fan. They have maps you can play that other people made. Does this game have any maps available?

Yes, I made a website from which you can download fan made maps/campaigns:
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/index.php?go=knights_and_merchants_editor_missions

Installation instructions are included in each download.
That help?
Lewin.

Thanks.
Don't forget to rate and comment on missions that you play. Then the people who made them will feel like making more for you.

If you have any troubles installing the missions then let me know. (if you can't understand the readme)

I'm not so great with the computer. I searched for KaM data files and couldn't find where I need to change the file names. I'm also afraid to do anything that will mess up the game. If you remember, I had trouble before skipping a mission for the same reason. I found it once before, but I'm having trouble now. Is it really necessary to change the file names etc? I don't have a problem reinstalling the game at a later date to play the original game. Is there a shortcut to playing the missions on your website?

Thanks in advance!

There is currently no simple way to play the missions. You must copy the files in by hand.
Firstly, locate your KaM folder. If you find the shortcut to KaM (how ever you normally start it) then you can locate it from that. If you use a desktop shortcut, simply right click on it and select properties. If you use a start menu shortcut, click Start -> Programs/All Programs -> KaM - The Peasants Rebellion and right click on the submenu item "KaM - The Peasants Rebellion" and select properties.

In the properties dialogue, select the Shortcut tab, then press "Find Target". A window should open showing your KaM folder. From there you can go to the data\mission directory and insert the correct files. If you don't want to bother with the whole backing up thing (so you must reinstall to play the original missions) then paste the .DAT files included in the download into data\mission. (and override files when it asks) Then look at the readme and see where it wants you to put the .MAP files. It will probably be data\mission\smaps or data\mission\dmaps, depending on which mission you downloaded.

Once you've inserted the correct files, look at the readme and see which campaign/mission it wants you to start. E.g. it might say "Start KaM, then start the TPR campaign" or maybe "then start the first single map"
Do as it says and it should work.

Good luck,
Lewin.

You know, I wonder why people don't use some bat script or something to automatically do the work? Would make the missions a lot more accessible to people and it rules out the possibility of messing up.

Yeah, that's true. You even could just upload a *.sav. Save the mission at the beginning and then share your *.sav. As far as I know a *.sav doesn't need a *.map and a mission*.dat. Tell me if I am wrong.
But at all it's an odd way to play missions, even if it's less complicate.

Yes, it doesn't need .dat and .map, but AI teams will not build any buildings in that case - after saving, quitting game and later loading the save AI stops building.

This would be great so people like me can play. I don't know what the heck I'm doing. All I know is that I want to play!!! LOL

That was where the idea of my mission packager came from. It sure would make things easier and I'm happy for Harold to do it.

There are too many problems with uploading saves. Firstly, if you're not running the same version then there could be some terrible consequences. (a lot of stuff in stored in the save which won't be compatible between versions) Secondly, as other people said, the AI behaves weirdly after loading a save. Lastly, if people exit and press restart then it won't work, because the DAT file isn't there.

Good to hear! I hope you enjoy it!

You'd better wait with it, because it's not finished yet. But it's very likely it will be released soon!

Okay, I'll wait to rate it. How will I know when it's finished?

Also, I'm on the 3rd mission. I've noticed that there's no mining. Does that change in future missions?
