Poll, should stock TSK/TPR maps be editable?

Question is simple and plain. If you vote "no" please provide your arguments.

When put like this I'd vote yes, but I have an other idea.
The problems with the stock maps are usually a couple of tiles that are wrong in some way. That we can not fix this is particularly annoying, to me at least. Suppose you only disable brushes, but allow other fixes, for stock maps?
That's a bit of a middle way..
Yea ok you know my opinion about the maps. But others may not, so:
This game is basically dead. What is the point of "protecting" the maps that the makers evidently did no trouble for to protect? They are not encrypted, or hidden inside big files, they don't even have a checksum. No trouble has been done to keep people from editing them.
But hey it's your editor

I don't think there enough room for part solutions. It's either yes or no. Fixing a couple of tiles never was in issue with other map editors, so that does not count anyway

ofc they should be editable

:p
It always irritated me. I had to use that quages old editor all the time.

I voted yes.
I see no reason why we shouldn't edit the original maps, other than the trouble with the terrain brushes not working properly which makes it difficult. If someone really wants to edit them then they will use maptopro or Qage's editor, so you're not really stopping people by disabling it.

of course I'm disappointed as I read, that some guys want to hack the original map files.

The Barbarian and I have implement a function to disallow hacking campaign/MM maps in the old map editor project. Hacking MM could cause problems and supports unfair cheating. Also you could cheat in single missions. And there is a little, little, little sacrilege: the original maps are a sanctuary of KaM. We don't like that some nasty guys destroy it with their tools. Patching very good, editing bad. You can call me a loony or something, but hacking map files is a KaM kill!

I have to say that I think the stock maps should be editable.
well, to cheat you can also temporarily move the mission somewhere else... and it's not like it wasn't possible before (quages' editor).

As far as I heard MP does not work in KaM anyway.. as for TKE and Remake - they will compare maps to be identical to byte.
Also you could cheat in single missions.
Thats completely players choice, after all there are built-in cheats available.
And there is a little, little, little sacrilege: the original maps are a sanctuary of KaM.
And they remain intact on your PC. As for others - it's their choice.
We don't like that some nasty guys destroy it with their tools. Patching very good, editing bad.
I agree on that.
You can call me a loony or something, but hacking map files is a KaM kill!
This is exageration. How could one alter a map that it kills KaM?

Why you ask me, if you don't like my answer. I only want to avoid, that you eleminate the "KaM soul" and touch the map files.

TK it's not that I fundamentally disagree with your reasoning, but what leads you to those conclusions? People have been able to edit maps for years now, and that hasn't led to any trouble that I know of (the KaM soul has not been killed). Sure, people could cheat with TPR/TSK (but none of the remakes) multiplayer, but it's not like there's any money involved and people wouldn't want to play multiplayer with them anymore so they're really only hurting themselves.
And single player.. well.. why should we care that they want to cheat? It's their busyness what they do on their own computer..

what should i say? this is my opinion since years... and the tool programmers are working on new versions, i know it.

Ok, but why do you think the KaM soul will be killed?
