Some newbie questions

Hi there. I bought KaM (pretty much on a whim) when it was on sale at GOG.com a few days. I haven't actually played it yet. I found out about this Remake mod yesterday and I'm interested, so I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. I heard that the Remake only altered the content of the original game and not the expansion. Will the expansion's missions etc still function properly with the mod installed?

2. Can anyone tell me the fundamental differences between vanilla KaM and the Remake?

3. Will I still have the option to play vanilla KaM even after I install the mod or will I have to reinstall the whole game again?

4. Having never played KaM before, would you recommend installing the mod and playing that right from the start or play vanilla KaM first?

Thanks in advance.

you will find most of your answers here: http://www.kamremake.com/faq/

kam remake is not exactly a "mod", its the game totally rewritten, with some differences, so you do not need to re-install the other if you wish to play. And yes, most things of the expansion (The Peasants Rebellion) haven't been added for many motives, mostly because it didn't balance well or didn't seem realistic. Also, the remake has many other additions to it, always to the good. I personally have never played the normal kam (or the expansion) since i downloaded the remake, because it is so good. The Peasants Rebellion campaign is also included. There isn't really any difference if you want to learn to play; either is good.

That is mostly true, with exception of AI - it's still can't build nor act on its own without mission scripts.

Thanks for the answers.

Well, my internet died last night so I couldn't come here to see any replies. So I decided to just try KaM and I just started playing the tutorial. I really liked it. Then I decided to give the Remake a try and I must say, the ability to speed the game up and to zoom out the camera alone make the Remake amazing. Also, the Marketplace is a great addition and really useful.

I started playing around midnight, thinking I would just try it before I go to bed. It got to 5AM and I was still playing it, it felt like I'd only been playing for 20 minutes! It is a great game and I'm really glad I bought it and I'm equally glad the Remake exists.

It's also really nice to see that this game still has a good active community. I can see myself being apart of it for a long time to come. :)

It's great to hear that the game appeals to new players as well as old fans! :)
