Speed x3 - Windows 10 vs. Linux

Hey guys!

A friend of mine are playing a lot KaM atm, and therefore we trained on our own. After comparing our stats, weapons and so on, we found out, that 45 minutes in realtime are not the suspected 2 hours and 15 minutes ingame but instead 1 hour 35 minutes.
Game modes are the same, Game Version the Same (KaM Remake r6720), "Solo" Multiplayer game, x3 speed of game.

After comparing with simultaniosly clicking we found out, that KaM Remake runs slower on the Windows Computer.
When both are in one game, the speed is the same (fortunately )

U guys have recognized that till now or someone know what the issue is?

Linux laptop: KaM Remake r6720 OpenGL 3.0 Mesa 10.3.2
Windows Laptop: KaM Remake r6720 OpenGL 4.513431 Compatibility Profile Context 16.150.2211.0

This could depend on CPU/GPU performance.

For the game x3 means "try to run at x3, or slower if you can not".
Same as with x300 - the game tries to run as fast as possible, but not faster than x300.
So if your PC can not provide for x3 speed it will run slower.

We are talking about Knights and Merchants right? so the graphics arent, lets say it smooth, challenging.

I got the same on my PC aswell as on my notebook. And they both are able to play way different games with little higher graphic requirements.

In this case the game is likely CPU-bound. Running big map on x3 is quite a lot of computations in itself

I cant help myself. Thinking my Intel I5 750 is too weak to play KaM on x3 speed when i can play for example Diablo 3 with highest resolutions without big problems (8 Gig RAM, AMD R9 Graphic card)...

I tested it on a small Map now, same issue...

i5 should be more than enough even for x15. Maybe there's something else going on in background that clogs CPU ?

P.S. Resolution and graphics are 90% GPU area. I'm not sure if D3 CPU usage is less that of KaM really. KaM has easily a few thousands of active "NPCs", unlike a couple of dozens in D3.

That would be an funny coincidence if the same thing "clogs" the CPU on my PC AND my notebook the same way.

I looked up CPU Usage during the game, its on 20% while having chrome and youtube, Leage of Legends Launcher open and so on...



The Problem has to be somewhere else. Is it the first time u hear of such an problem?

BTW: i will check the problem in a multiplayer game with my friend this evening. Just for example, then, there should be the speed of mine, am i right?

Did not had reports about such issues before (at least as far as I can remember). Usually game runs well up to x8 afaik.
KMR is single-threaded (uses only 1 core/thread), if you have 4 cores (8 threads) and KMR used only 1 to 100%, then overall could be ~13%.

In MP game played on x3 on a big map with additional AI opponents that is likely to cause constant lags, when one player timings are right and another falls behind constantly.

I think we are talking at cross purposes.

I dont have Problems with Lags, even on x10 in solo play or anything else. its just like 45 minutes seem not be 2h 15 ingame, the game runs slower. on the notebook the same with has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600. Both CPU's should do that easily.

In SP on x3 everything should feel fine (except for game being actually x2.1).
I was making a point about MP. MP should lag is one player runs at x3 and another one at x2.1

What can be tested additionally:
- compare x3 and x10, they should show similar times (1 hour 35 as you mentioned above)
- check CPU core/thread load at x1/x3/x10
- note game FPS at these speeds as well please (shown in games status bar after you enable F11 menus)

Hi, sorry for the late answer.

First of all, the results of your suggested tests: (All tested in SP)

-Time x3: 1 Minute Realtime is 2 minutes 10 seconds ingame
Time x10: 1 Minuate Realtime is 6 minutes 30 seconds ingame

Test 3, the FPS: x1: 59,9 FPS;
x3: 59,8 FPS

What we found out while my friend and me were playing:

The Game seems to adapt to the "slower" player. It isnt laggin at all at my friends notebook, but the 0.9 speed lower. Game-Time runs at 2.1 speed. Its really strange

PS: now i tried if x1 is really x1. Surprise: NO! 1 Minute realtime is 56 seconds ingame

Guess what - I have timed the game and 1 minute of realtime came out to be 6:25sec of ingame time at x10 xD

So this is a bug noone noticed!

You serious? Hahaha, nice. never "reported" a bug before. Means every Windows user played with 2.1 speed until now?

If noone is interested on this, i can ask some friends to install KaM to test it

But its still funny that it works as it should on a Linux computer using Wine... but i'm totally not into programming games or anything else
