that is true, but the match will still be ruined, so maybe if people get votekicked they should not be able to join a lobby for like 5 or 10 minutes?

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
Except that in FPS someone will join the game, I don't think we have that kind of luxury in KaM, most likely his/her teammates will leave the game as well. So while votes are useful I don't think they will solve the problem.

Te problem is that it isn't possible because there is no account systemthat is true, but the match will still be ruined, so maybe if people get votekicked they should not be able to join a lobby for like 5 or 10 minutes?

an acount system would be so sweet(tho since the game is free i gues people could still just make new acount)but the best thing an acount system could bring for me is a stat tracker so u can see things like games played and leaver%/reliability% this way everyone would quickly know who it is safe to play with.
Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
The biggest problem of an account system is the security. As long as no ground-breaking idea evolves, this kills the idea.
An account-system has to be accessible from the web so the user can change its state - which makes it prone to violators.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
I had an idea which I thought was good. OpenID/Google/Twitter/etc. login - you'd use your Gmail/Twitter/Facebook/OpenID etc. account details for example, allow the "KaM Remake" app access to the account. Then you'd bind a KaM nickname to this account. So if you wanted to "confirm" your nickname next time installing the Remake, you'd need to login again with this account. Unfortunately, devs didn't ever comment on my idea (I think I posted it at the forums once, and also at IRC in a discussion with Lewin). I thought it was the thing that we were looking for, because it lets us not use login details directly, so no danger of hacking the database. I don't know the technical details though so that's why I'm hoping for an answer from Krom/Lewin: is it as good solution as I think it is?
Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
@sado1: The problem with all such ideas is that we don't have much of an experience working with secure data. We could easily overlook few small details that could allow to cheat scores, but also could possibly compromise players emails/login/password details. We have a lot to do in other areas of KaM Remake, so for now we prefer to be "safe than sorry" and do not implement any kind of account systems that have any private data in them at all.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
Ah I get it. But what if the fake nicknames/trolling becomes a big problem that can't be ignored? Also, if you don't want to provide accounts system then what about some simple things that would make trolling much harder without making a security threats. For example, some kind of unique IDs for players, so the other players will have a way to figure out if some known troll/quitter tries to play under a fake nickname.
Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
@sado1: Let's imagine we did UniqueIDs. Next thing in the morning are threads "I got disconnected, but now KMR stamped me as a "leaver" how do I reset my UniqueID?". Next thing - our source-code is open, nothing is ever hidden, it wont take long till trolls find out where we store these UIDs and edit them or worse - spoil someone elses reputation by making a clone of someones UID. Why don't we tie to hardware UIDs (CPU, GPU, HDD, many parts have hwUID) - because thats becoming security thing (these numbers are private info) and we still cant protect them from changing in code.
Proper solution would probably involve writing a dedicated closed-source DLL just for accounts. Thats a lot of design work and effort. As said - for now we postpone it in favor of more important things.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
i might have a temporary fix against troll untill a permanent solution is done. it is not the best idea but it is something.
have you guys heard about the program steam? it is made by valve and you can use it to manage your games, make a profile add friends and make community groups. http://store.steampowered.com/
just so you know, steam itself is free, so no need to buy a game just to get steam.
now i have been thinking, why not make a kam community group that players can join and ask around for games. and if they are just trolling you can kick them out of the group? this should be a reasonable effective trollfilter?

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
I don't see a way KaM Remake could make its way into the Steam.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
you can make a steam group about pretty much anything, you do not need to have the game on steam, it is just to make a group for kam remake.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
That's why we always organized our games in minichat, that's why now we usually do that in Teamspeak. But maybe some Steam unofficial integration would be possible. By the way... isn't it possible for the mods to be registered as a game on Steam? Remake is sort-of a mod. Not that I think that Steam integration is something I really need (I don't care tbh) but just wondering.
Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic
Could you please create a new topic and explain how your proposal will work in detail?
