Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

What about making an feature that you could marker the area and it would fill it with correct trees?

Of course there would be some options like

density

min space between each tree

forest age sapplings, mid grown trees, fully grown trees

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

I think this is a very bad option to have. It would only make maps worse. To make a pretty map, you need to actually take time into logically placing each object. This would encourage mapmakers to produce lazy, sloppy work.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

How about adding custom auto defense space between them instead of being always 4 tiles

The values such as Army amount and Collumns can be readed from AI formation settings in editor OR even better from the current amount of soldiers in group and make it dynamic space

(Army amount/Collumns ROUND UP) + 1 = Next auto defense position [instead of static 4]

Also will be the ealier deliver added, to deliver stone to builders when they re still diging road?, like in tpr?

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

I have idea. When you watch replay, you always want to check the barracks for the pt weapons. It's common to watch with x10 or x300 and go beyond pt and soldiers get out of barracks and weapons cannot be seen anymore. You need to restart the replay and wait again. Just pause automatically at pt. I think this idea would be a simple solution.

GREAT idea. Just pause automatically, people won't mind - if they want to let it play, they will simply continue...

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

Well I don't think this is a good idea. Much better is just to have a way of skipping to peacetime. Then you don't need to worry about annoying automatic pausing (which would annoy me quite a bit).

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

I think it has been proposed already, but... what about a "repeat queue" checkbox in the school, that automatically adds the last civilian type trained at the end of the queue?

Let's say the queue is (S is serf, L is laborer, R is Recruit) "SSLR".
When the first serf is trained, it becomes "SLRS"
When the second one is trained, it becomes "LRSS"
And so on, indefinitely.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

It has been, and has also been declined. I'm not sure I've ever played an RTS that had auto train anyway. Remembering to train units is part of the game. Having auto train could also make you accidentally end up with too many units (whoops! Accidentally made 12 blacksmiths!) or use all your gold. You also need to train different units continuously so paying attention to what you're making is important anyway.

If you are having trouble remembering to check your school, assign it to a hotkey, and make it a goal to remember to hit that hotkey continuously :)

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

Remembering it is no trouble at all, my problem is that with more than one school when training recruits one ends up spending most of his time cycling through the schools... which is, in my opinion, annoying and completely unneeded.

As for the forgetting, maybe every time you manually alter the queue the checkbox could automatically switch off?

(P.S. Age of Wonders 1, 2, and Shadow Magic all have auto-train... and they're turn based, which lessens the need for auto training; Warzone 2100 is an RTS that has auto training; The Settlers 2 only has auto training, and it too is an RTS.
Long story short, pretty much only KaM, Starcraft & family, and AoE & family, do not have it... :P )

I don't agree. As Ben said, it's part of the game. With 2-3 schools you just need 2-3 hotkeys assigned. Wanna train - hotkey, right click, hotkey#2, right click, eventually another hotkey, right click. Then repeat after some time. It's not annoying and time consuming at all imo.

So the best RTS games of all time don't have auto-train? I rest my case here (H)

(for the record, Stronghold series also doesn't have auto train)

Not sure about the others, but in Stronghold: Crusaders civilian training is fully automatic...
best RTS games of all time
P.S. I don't agree on this. At all.
In my opinion there are a lot of RTS games way better than AoE and Starcraft, and it baffles me how those two came to be so much more popular.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

We're OT but I'll retort :)

Of course the citizen training is automatic, but that's a completely different mechanic as civilians are free (there would be no reason to not make them). I was talking about soldiers, as that is more related to the citizen training in KaM.

True, it's OT - I'll drop it.

Still, I really would like to see this added... it's simple, doesn't give undue advantages, and you don't have to use it if you don't want to. :(
